This small town with over 8700 inhabitants is situated at 28 km west of Piatra Neamţ and 55 km east of Gheorghieni. It was mentioned first time in a historical paper in 1625. Near the town there is the beautiful mountain Ceahlău and at25 km south-west there are Bicaz Gorges and the Red Lake with splendid sightseens.

As a result of the complex researches that has been made in precursory years of hydroelectric power station construction, the museum contains archeologist and ethnographic marks of living in Bistriţa Valley, from the ancient times until modern epoch. In the ethnography room can be seen the model of a raft, mark of a disappeared occupation, specific to the region. 9.00-17.00(oct.-march); 10.00-18.00(apr.-sept.), Monday - closed.

The "Izvorul Muntelui" Lake - Bicaz (35 km away from Piatra Neamt)
The lake was formed behind a dam built on Bistriţa River more than 120 m heigh. Approximately 35 km long, "the sea beneath the Ceahlau", it is an attractive leisure area. You can rent small boats, you can go fishing.
